ANNUAL REPORT
Persian Language School WA
Fiscal Year 2018–2019
1.
General
From 1st
July 2019 until 30th June 2020, the operation of Persian Language School was more
challenging.
Persian Language School WA was operating at “Collins street centre” in South Perth since 2011. While the venue had a great yard and playground, the place that we could use for holding the classes were only two classroom size rooms and a larger hall. With the increasing number of students in recent years, particularly in 2nd semester of 2019 that we had 54 language learners per term, the venue was no longer suitable.
Since 2018, we have been actively looking to find a suitable place. During 2019, we have increased our efforts on this matter and contacted multiple schools, Department of Education, etc in the search of a place that we can hire for the school. Finally with a great help from Mr Saeed Parvaresh, who is a member of ICWA management team, we have achieved to find, negotiate and sub-lease the “Creative House, 80 Albert St, Osborne Park” from Sideffect Australia. The venue provides more space & facilities, and created opportunity for much more improvement to all aspect of the school. We have started to use the venue from February 2020, not only for accommodating our language school activities, but also the events of other divisions of Iranian Association.

COVID-19 Pandemic
PLSWA was
one of the first schools in WA, taking action on the issue of COVID-19
pandemic. From third week in February until mid-March, while school continued
to operate as normal, extra precautionary measures has been put in place and
announced. These reinforced precautionary measures were:
- Disinfecting
of all hard surfaces including doors, handles, tables, chairs, etc.
- Signage
reinforcing health guideline like hand washing & sneezing/coughing
etiquette.
- Avoidance
of any person with cold or flu-like symptoms.
- Encouraging
teachers and staff to reconsider travel to high or moderate risk
destinations, as recommended by the Australian Department of Health.
- Advising
anyone with flu-like symptoms to self-isolate & seek medical advice.
We also prepared
our online system to run all our language classes online (LIVE, REAL-TIME),
ensuring there would be no disruption to our students’ learning, and finally
due to the risk of COVID-19 from 28th March all classes switched to be online
for few remaining session of term 1 and also the entire term 2.
Note: After easing of the coronavirus restrictions, PLSWA physical classes have been resumed from beginning of term 3 on 25th July 2020.

Completing PIP
Stage One
The
Pathways to Improvement Program (PIP) is a program for the development of quality
teaching and operations in community language schools, runs by the Office of
Multicultural Interests (OMI), Department of Local Government, Sport and
Cultural Industries. PIP provides community language schools with tools to assess
their effectiveness and progress towards best practice in the management and
delivery of language learning. By PIP final stage, the school will be
recognised by the “School Curriculum and Standards Authority” to teach ATAR
courses.
