Fiscal Year 2019 – 2020

1. Social gatherings and events

From 1st July 2019 until 30th June 2020, five workshops (total of 31 sessions) has been held as part of the activities of “Iranian Professional Network” of ICWA.
The events were include

2. COVID-19 Pandemic and PNYF 2020 Cancellation

Due to concerns related to the covid-19 pandemic and in accordance with health guidance, for precautionary measures to minimise the risk of spread, ICWA management team have decided to cancel all four major public events of “Persian New Year Festival 2020” including “Persian Festival of Fire, Persian New Year Celebration, Persian Nature Day and Persian Art Exhibition”.

The PNYF 2020 events cancellation has been announced on 7/March. Accordingly, Letters/Emails sent to all Eid VIP guests informing/apologising for the cancellation. Refunds paid for Eid sold tickets and PFF/PND stalls. All venue bookings and equipment hire orders cancelled and all payments and bonds refunded. PNYF grant condition negotiated with Lotterywest and requested the permission to keep the grant for the next PNYF, which has been approved.

Due to COVID-19 pandemic, from 6th March until the end of June 2020, all IPN workshops being held online and there were no face-to-face gatherings, events or meeting.

ICWA has emerged from its COVID restrictions on 26/June/2020 and first face-to-face management team meeting after the pandemic restrictions period, has been held. The outcome of the meeting was planning the Persian New Year Festival 2021 (Charshanbeh Suri, Eid Nowruz, Sizdeh Bedar) and to plan holding a monthly Social Networking Evening from August/September 2020.

3. Iranian Professional Network

Iranian Professionals Network is a network of professionals within the Iranian Community of Western Australia, supporting Iranian professionals and businesses, with the focus on enhancement of the employ-ability, career and business development and enhancement, and social life of Professional members through networking and community engagement. IPN provides opportunities for networking, knowledge and experience sharing, and a positive, supportive, and structured environment for personal and professional development, and business & career advancement.

The activities of Iranian Professionals Network (IPN) initially started in August 2017. Later in July 2018, the IPN renamed to Persian Business Network (PBN) with more focus on promoting the ICWA members’ businesses. In Sep 2019, the PBN activities has been ended and the Iranian Professionals Network (IPN) has been emerged back to focus on enhancement of the employ-ability, career and business development, and social life of Professional members.
From 1st July 2019 until 30th June 2020, five workshops (total of 31 sessions) has been held as part of the IPN activities (Ref to item one of this report).

4. Management Team

ICWA management team currently have seven members who actively participate in meetings and arrangement of the ICWA activities. From 1st July 2019 until 30th June 2020, nine meetings of the ICWA management team has been held. Six of those meetings were held from Sep 2019 to March 2020 related to preparation for PNYF 2020 that finally been cancelled at the meeting on 6th March.

5. External Relation

(1) Hon Chris Tallentire MLA, Member for Thornlie; Hon David Michael MLA, Member for Balcatta; Sara Saberi, Councillor for City of Canning; Moya McLauchlan, from Community Languages WA; Liz Behjat, State Manager of Leading Age Services Australia; Ashleigh Brand, Project Leader Kaleidoscope Initiative, City of Stirling; Nirmal Singh, Kaleidoscope Project Officer, City of Stirling; Franco Smargiassi, President of WA Multicultural Association, and Rodney Bridge, the Founder of Sideffect Australia, have been attended at the Opening Celebration of Iranian Association new centre (80 Albert St, Osborne Park) on 8th Feb 2020.

(2) Representative of Iranian Community has been participated at few events and meetings including:
• Community Language Teacher Award on 5/Aug/2019 by invitation of Hon Paul Papalia CSC MLA, Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Interests, and Community Languages Western Australia
• Community Leaders Forum at Department of Home Affairs on 11/Sep/2019 by invitation from Samantha Patuto, the Regional Director of Department of Home Affairs
• Bangladesh Society Cultural Night on 19/Oct/2019 by invitation of Biswojit Bose, the President of Bangali Society for puja and culture Inc.
• OMI Leadership Program Alumni Event on 21/Oct/2019 by invitation of Hon Paul Papalia CSC MLA, Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Interests.
• Kaleidoscope Mentoring Program Graduation Event on 14/Nov/2019.
• Kaleidoscope Meeting on 12/Dec/2019.
• Westpac Referral Partnership Network Event on 12/Dec/2019.
• KMP Orientation Session on 6/Feb/2020.
• Meeting with Shaun Sim, Community Liaison Officer from Department of Home Affairs on 17/Mar/2020.
• Meeting with Isaac Stewart, the Electorate Officer of Senator Dean Smith on 10/June/2020.
