ACTIVITY REPORT
Of
Persian Business Network

August 2017 – February 2019


1.  Background
The Iranian Community of Western Australia (ICWA) is an independent not-for-profit, non-political, charitable community organisation, and addition to promoting Persian Culture, aimed to: Create coordination, harmony and unity among all Iranians. Provide support to all, regardless of their race, religion, sex, age, etc, and Improve the economic situation, employ-ability and social life of its members.

2.  Formation

In the line with the objectives of ICWA and its commitment to support Iranian professionals and businesses, the formation of the Iranian Professional Network initially suggested to ICWA by Dr Vahid Etminan on 29th June 2017 and considered at the council meeting of the association on 27th July 2017. The network formed by inviting Iranian Professionals and Business Owners to its first Network Night that being hold on 25th August 2017.

3.  Objectives

The PBN objective is to create a platform for cooperation between Persian Businesses in Perth to help each other by
(1)  Knowledge and experience sharing
(2)  Promoting each other’s business
(3)  Exchange of business referrals

4.  PBN Steering Group

The PBN Steering Group has been formed on the 2nd Feb 2018 with the role to decide on the priorities of activities of the Persian Business Network (PBN) and to manage the general course of PBN operation. Current group members are: Saeideh Botlani, Helia Singh, Mahdi Chavoshi, Ebrahim Hosseini, Saeed Parvaresh, Ata Amini and Morteza Tabatabaee. Any of the members who are interested to donate their time to assist in managing the PBN activities are welcome to join the steering group

5.  Events

Since the formation of PBN on 25th August 2017, 16 monthly PBN night has been held. Part of each meeting dedicated to learning and knowledge sharing and the rest of the meeting time being used for introducing businesses and networking. Over the past meetings multiple topics including (not limited to) the "About SEO, Marketing Methods; Business Models; Brain Storming for a Business; Key Elements of An Effective Website; Taxation for Businesses; Eight common mistakes newcomers do to get the job; Introducing kelidescope Project; Corporate mindfulness, the secret to increase the business success; Superannuation and insurance in relation to Tax for PAYG and self-employment; Startup business planning; Cyber Security; Perth property outlook" are covered.

6.  Kaleidoscope Project

Kaleidoscope is a project implemented by the City of Stirling and funded by the Office of Multicultural Interests.
The Kaleidoscope Initiative aims to harness the economic benefits of migration by enabling newcomers to obtain employment in their field of expertise and supporting employers to reap the rewards of a diverse workforce. Key elements of the project include:
  • development of an employer partnership program that supports employers to harness the benefits of a diverse workforce through the provision of cultural competency training, diverse workforce strategies and networking opportunities
  • the development of a professional immigrant networks program that actively support newcomers to achieve employment outcomes through networking events, professional development and connections to employment opportunities/services
  • working in conjunction with professional immigrant networks, community agencies and employer partners to establish a mentoring program which matches skilled immigrants with mentors in their field
  • to ensure the ongoing sustainability of the project through development of an independent body that brings together employers, professional immigrant networks, community agencies and other stakeholders



Membership of Kaleidoscope Steering Committee Project
ICWA joined the Kaleidoscope Project Steering Committee when the project initiated in August 2017, and Mahdi Chavoshi as representative of ICWA attended the Kaleidoscope project meetings and events since 16th October 2017.

Kaleidoscope Initiative in partnership with Jobs and Skills WA will be organising a series of Job-readiness workshops for newcomer professionals in May and June 2019.
These workshops will help the newcomer professionals boost their employability and also fulfil the Kaleidoscope Mentoring Program's eligibility criteria to join as a mentee.
The topics to be covered are :

7.  Business Directory

The business directory page on ICWA website created as a service to community members who are looking for Persian Businesses in WA and serves as platform for Persian Business Owners to promote their business within the community.


8.  PBN Telegram Group

Being a member of PBN telegram group, you will be kept informed about available workshops and PBN monthly events. You may also ask questions, share your knowledge and promote your business to the community members.



9.  Network Rules Highlights

  • All new members need to send their resume and business details to be considered for membership. This is to make sure people have license and authority to work in a claimed category in Australia.
  • Members are committing to support and promote each other’s businesses.
  • Non-Members are also welcome to RSVP and attend the PBN Nights for FREE.
  • Members should prepare to speak about their businesses.
