ANNUAL REPORT Of
IRANIAN COMMUNITY OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA
Fiscal Year 2020 – 2021

1. Social gatherings and events

From 1st July 2020 until 30th June 2021, ICWA management team have managed to carry out three major public events of “Persian New Year Festivals 2021” including “Persian Festival of Fire, Persian New Year Celebration and Persian Nature Day”. All three proved to be well managed and highly successful events.

The Persian Festival of Fire (Charshanbeh Suri) and Persian Nature Day (Sizdeh Bedar) were celebrated as free outdoor event with music entertainment and fun at South Perth Foreshore. Persian New Year Celebration (Eid Nowruz) was a ticketed event, held at South Perth Community Hall. The number of people attending at Charshanbeh Suri, Eid NooRooz and Sizdeh, were estimated as 1000+, 180+ and 800+ respectively.

Addition to the PNYF events, from 1st July 2020 until 30th June 2021, another eleven events (97 Sessions - as listed below) also organised and held by ICWA.

Effective from this year the timing of “Persian Art Exhibition” that was in April each year for the past four years, has moved to the 2nd half of the year around October.

2. Iranian Professional Network

Iranian Professionals Network is a network of professionals within the Iranian Community of Western Australia, supporting Iranian professionals and businesses, with the focus on enhancement of the employability, career and business development and enhancement, and social life of Professional members through networking and community engagement. IPN provides opportunities for networking, knowledge and experience sharing, and a positive, supportive, and structured environment for personal and professional development, and business & career advancement. Python workshops held during the past financial year was part of the IPN activity and more workshops and activities for IPN members are schedule to be held in September-December 2021.

3. Management Team

ICWA management team currently have Four members who actively participate in meetings and arrangement of the ICWA activities. From 1st July 2020 until 30th June 2021, eleven meetings of the ICWA management team have been held, in which information were shared and in which feedback and suggestions are sought in regard to the ICWA activities, services and events and decisions were made.

4. Social Networking

ICWA management team made decision to increase social networking within the community. Two “Persian Dinner Party” events on 12/Sep and 21/Nov last year was held to meet this objective and creates opportunities for members to come together and enjoy Persian Homemade Cuisine as well as a joyful competition.
More similar events will be arranged in coming months and most likely (if our venue and loads of activities allows) will be turned to a regular event.

5. Youth Soccer Team

ICWA established a youth soccer team since 2014 and member are playing soccer every Sunday at Charles Paterson Park.  Most of the member are coming with their family and some of the family members are playing soccer and some of them carrying out social gathering. Since July 2020 more than 30 events of soccer have been held for members.

5. External Relation


(1) Hon Geoff Baker MLA the Member for South Perth, Mr Greg Milner the Mayor of City of South Perth, Mr Logan Howlett the Mayor of City of Cockburn & Mrs Patricia Howlett, Miss Sara Saberi Councillor for City of Canning, Mr James Jegasothy the A/Executive Director for Office of Multicultural Interests, and Mr Said Padshah, Senior Policy Adviser to the Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Interests, have been participated at the Persian New Year Celebration event on 20th March 2021.

(2) Representatives of Iranian Community has been participated at few events and meetings including:

Digital Marketing for CaLD Small Business Owners on 25/08/2020 by invitation of Office of Multicultural Interests.
Work Ready Launch & Kaleidoscope Initiative Stakeholder Session on 29/09/2020 by invitation from City of Stirling.
Kaleidoscope Mentoring Program 2020 Cycle 2 Graduation Session on 15/10/2020 by invitation from City of Stirling.
Kaleidoscope Initiative Stakeholders Partnership Network (KISPN) on 14/06/2021 by invitation from City of Stirling.

(3) Dr Mohammad as president of Iranian Community has been participated at few events and meetings including:

Rising Leadership Program project on 9/March/2021 Anita Tuzlukovic, Manager of Settlement and Community Engagement
Ibrahim Lateef, Strategic Advisor of WA Police - Community Engagement Division on 1/April /2021 by invitation from Steven Pretorius.
